Reasons!
- Google is both generally evil and liable to suddenly cut services that are too good or beneficial for humanity.
- I had used Blot.im for a bit and that was nice but I'm trying not to give money to businesses that have to pay taxes to wild eyed tyrants. So now we're on Bearblog.
- This place is, for better or worse, a museum of a time and a place. Both of which are Google+. Let it remain that way until the sands of time (aka some executive at Google) tear it down.
So What Are You Doing?
Same as ever. Blogging, making books, worrying about bills, running megadungeons, still getting included in all the best "hidden gem" reddit threads after being in print for a decade, the usual. I had a brief period where I was too chewed up by making books that I had no will to MAKE books. I kept my hand in by writing angry blank verse to exercise the foul spirits that would usually have been eaten up by caustic creative juices, but now I'm back at full speed. You should make a blog too. Social media is poisonous, drains all your finer impulses. Wastes energy you could spend being happy. I finally answered my desire for community by making the world I wanna live in. Which is to say, I made an IRC channel (Discord's days are numbered), a webring and a blogroll app. All these things run on old tech and are about as future proof as anything on the internet can be. They cost me pennies a month to run these out of a server in Germany, so unlikely to go anywhere. The more they get used the better they get, so don't be shy, there is almost no way you can do this wrong except to not even try.
Instructions On How To Be Happy Too
- Go make a blog now. Even if all you do is post your campaign notes up on it, I wanna see it.
- Join a webring. Yes, like in the 90s. People will find your blog and you don't have to do anything other than be you.
- You can even add a blogroll to it, just like in the Google Plus times. If you don't then you should get an RSS reader at least
- Post. Read. Post. Read. Delete social media. Post. Read.
- Learn how to use IRC (it's like Discord but less weird and doesn't harvest your data or charge you money), or just join via our Convos app. It's ostensibly a Melsonia related space but you can make any rooms you like and chat in an ephemeral, quasi anonymous, low stakes environment. Once you get the hang of it a whole world opens up.
[OPTIONAL]: Get your own domain name, so if your blogging platform of choice folds you can take everything with you like nothing happened. Domain names are dead easy to set up, if you can make a blog you can make one now prob.
Really, it's that easy. You don't need to be good or popular or cool. If anything, they're the worst and most tedious people to have blogs. The uncooler the better, I say. And comment sections? You mean those places spam bots post links to investment tips? Nah, pass.
What About This Blog?
I'm cloning all the game stuff over to DSell.me at my leisure. There are about 350 proper posts here and I plan to rescue them from oblivion. Some day I'm gonna have to show receipts for hexflowers, I just know it. At the very least for when I have it carved on my tombstone. All the posts are also gonna stay here so any other equally old blogs don't get broken. There's nothing sadder than following an old blogspot link to a dead page.
